Description:
GET WIRED! 402: Solar Power; plus Residential Service and Troubleshooting (33 hour course)

This course:

You'll work on your own and complete two self-paced courses in this order:

Service Technician: General Residential:
This self-paced course is an introduction to residential troubleshooting, based on what a service technician needs to know and do, as a representative of their company, while utilizing good work practices. Course topics include systematic troubleshooting using the 5-step troubleshooting approach, which is an effective and reliable method for troubleshooting electrical problems; technologies and diagnostic equipment; the business elements of doing service work; and service call "work order" simulations which require critical thinking and application of concepts in general and electrical safety, installation, troubleshooting, and Code.

Solar Power for Electricians:
Learn about photovoltaic systems, both residential and commercial, and their safe installation in compliance with the National Electrical Code. The course includes array configurations and electrical design characteristics for grid-tied Photovoltaic (PV) systems but also covers equipment essential to understanding all types of PV systems, including systems incorporating back-up energy and energy storage sources. This course addresses PV system installations from the perspective of the 2020 National Electrical Code (NEC), including but not limited to: interconnection requirements and calculations; disconnect requirements; overcurrent protection; and wire sizing and grounding requirements, applicable to all types and sizes of PV installations..

While you work on your own on these self-paced courses, you can use an online messaging system to communicate with your instructor if you have questions.

Each self-paced course has a final exam and you must pass both of them by your assigned deadline to earn credit for this course. Partial credit for GET WIRED! 402 will not be given. Work on the self-paced courses at least 6 hours per week, just as you would in any GET WIRED! course, so that you can finish on time and earn credit for this course.

A 2020 NEC book is required for this course.
